The party's over

I don't know what's going on but it's been raining in Rio nonstop ever since I got home from Cuiabá. People are walking around everywhere in sweaters and high tops because it's been around 75F everyday--I'm even wearing jeans while I write this! Unbelievable.

The Coldplay show was amazing! It was held in the same area where the Carnaval parade happens and there was hundreds of thousands of people there. Once we got off the metro it was already raining so we bought some cheap ponchos and went to the stadium. We climbed up the bleachers rather than brave the audience standing below and huddled around an umbrella together in the rain while we waited for it to start. Brazilians (Cariocas, specifically) continue to surprise me with their public indecencies and craziness. The people sitting behind us danced and sang Coldplay songs behind us for 2 hours waiting for the show to start. However, when I say 'sang Coldplay songs' realize that they don't know any of the actual words and just say 'oooooh'.

The show ended up being so beautiful that I cried! I think everyone in Coldplay cried a little too because the audience was so amazing and sang along to every song.

So school has started and my endless frivolity has officially ended for now. Everyone at PUC is intimidating because they look like they're supermodels or actors from Telenovelas. I've never been at a school where there's an actual common area where students hang out so it's nice having that environment of thousands of young people gathering together. Taking courses in Portuguese is exciting and overwhelming because I'm afraid I'll miss something important. I decided to take French 1 which is good because it's all in French so everyone is on the same level of confusion. As promised by everyone who talked to me about PUC before I got here, the students are snotty and rich and I viciously ignore everyone I see. My thoughts are on my school and on my new interest who will be visiting next month! Ahh I can't wait.
