Monday sucks

Whatever trust I've had in people has decreased even more due to paranoia. This morning I smart mouthed the guy on the bus because I thought he gave me the wrong change but I just had never seen the kind of coin he gave me...It's starting to seem like every word out of a Brazilian guy is a lie and I'm a little sad that many of my interactions are incredibly superficial. Also at the international student office today I lost my cool and started cry-yelling at my program director in portuguese because she told me that one day I'll think that getting mugged is funny, embarrassing...

I finally figured out why my debit card doesn't work and things will hopefully be going smoother soon. I hate living in Copacabana still, but by this weekend I'll be in Leblon living a little easier hopefully.

Not everything is bad of course. On Saturday I went to Petropolis, the city where the Portuguese court moved when Napoleon wanted Portugal. The city was planned by a German architect so all the buildings look like Europe. The streets are all cobblestone and horse-drawn carriages aren't that uncommon of transportation. They even have right of way!

They also had these goat-drawn carriages for kids.

For lunch I ate rice, beans, vegetables and drank some Guaraná--the soda of Brazil.

As always, the day took forever because PUC doesn't realize organizing 100 people at once requires more effort. This is me bored and sunburned in front of the imperial palace.

Today I miss home.

  2. Guaraná tastes like 7up from the Amazon. Brazilian MTV is awesome, they actually have music videos.
