The past few days have been a blur. Good news is that I've moved to Leblon where I have officially started my pretend life as a Brazilian socialite. The apartment is constantly filled with traveling Brazilians that are friends/relatives/business partners of Caio and his family. Caio isn't even here right now actually so it's just Krystal and I playing house in our amazing building on our amazing street 10 minutes away from campus. Leblon is obnoxiously 'chique' (pronounced shee-key) but the fact that I can carry a camera and my phone without a care in the world is fantastic.
I just got back from hanging out with these newlyweds (Dylan and Bruno) I met in the elevator. Dylan is from Tennessee but went to art school in Santa Barbara/lived in San Francisco until recently and Bruno grew up in Brazil and is a doctor. Basically they're the most attractive, intelligent and funny people I've met. We listened to good music (D's favorite band is Department of Eagles) and made plans to go to the beach tomorrow.
Shorthand guide to my life right now...
failures: never arriving to school on time, being constantly sunburn, dying of pain from being sore from Capoeira, running out of money all the time,
victories: finding vegan yogurt and soy products*, hanging out with Armando for more than two hours for the first time in a year, living two blocks away from the tastiest veggie burgers I've ever tasted, dominating portuguese class
*Recently I made an 'orkut' profile which is this not-so-secret google made facebook. All Brazilians have them, and I joined a million vegan orkut communities and am excited to meet some vegans from PUC at this picnic on Friday.
